If you need to ship your car now, watch for weather related delays.

Unless you’re address reads as under a rock, you’ve noticed the havoc that Hurricane Sandy wreaked along the east coast.

Our thoughts and best wishes go out to all of those affected. It was humbling to watch as Mother Nature unleashed her fury. With technology being what it is, you could see photos of Atlantic City and New York subways being steadily submerged in real time.

There are some lingering effects that some of us outside of the area aren’t aware of but affect us in the logistics business. If you live within the affected areas or plan on shipping a vehicle that either will pass through or have a drop off within the affected areas, plan on delays.

While the flooding is receding steadily, there are still widespread power outages which cause serious delays. Besides non-working signal lights at intersections, many gas stations that do not have backup generators are unable to pump gas because the pumps need electricity to function.

While there doesn’t seem to be a shortage of fuel, there is an inability to pump it in some locales which is effectively the same.

Please review your route carefully with your logistics coordinator. Temper your delivery expectations. If your vehicle is coming from, going through or being delivered to affected areas, plan on delays. There may be some cases of loads arriving before or on time however that is not something to bank on.

To add insult to injury there are snowstorms from the Carolinas north and west into the Dakotas.
